Worn & Wound Company Story

Whether you’re new to collecting watches, or have been for years, you know it can be difficult to find information on unique and well-crafted timepieces that offer great value. Many watches from independent and micro-brands, especially those priced below $1,000, can be very hard to handle and evaluate in person. And sure, there are plenty of magazines and websites that discuss the most sophisticated haute horology, but few of those give value-driven watches the attention, detail and thoughtfulness they deserve.

So, in 2011 we started Worn & Wound with simple aspirations to get our hands on the watches we love. In turn, we would share the most in-depth reviews possible with you, adding our own unique aesthetic and point of view to the mix. Style and great design are very important to us, and so these two key factors are central to all that we do.

As it turns out, there are a lot of people out in the world just like us. Over the past ten years, Worn & Wound has grown by leaps and bounds, as now has the incredible community of readers of all backgrounds and interests. We’ve had the good fortune of meeting many of you, and it’s been awesome to see Worn & Wound become a home for both long-time watch enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

Product design is also a passion of ours. Two of our founders, Zach Weiss and James Helms, spent their early careers in the product development industry – Zach as a designer and James as a product manager. As with our passion for watches, we believe strongly that products of great quality and design should be available to everyone.

So, in 2012, we launched the Worn & Wound Shop, featuring a full array of our own in-house designed, American-Made watch straps and cases. In 2018, we rebranded our online store as the Windup Watch Shop and became an authorized retailer of some of our favorite brands. We still make a full array of our own products, including straps, cases, watch boxes, tools, and more. We even launched the first-ever fully American-made nylon strap, the ADPT Strap. Over at the Windup Watch Shop, you’ll find all these products, as well as great watches from the likes of Autodromo, Damasko, Hamilton, Oris, Timex, Zodiac, and a whole lot more.

We’ve met some great people in the watch industry (quality people and quality watches tend to go together). We’ve established strong relationships with some of our favorite brands, built an awesome roster of contributors, each bringing their own unique expertise to the site and we continue to grow our readership everyday.

In an effort to bring even more people into the watch community, in 2015, we launched a first-of-its-kind watch event called the Windup Watch Fair. Unlike other watch events, Windup is free to the public and exclusively features brands that offer great value, from micro-brands to independents to storied Swiss mainstays. The purpose of Windup is to bring watches to the public and lower the barriers to getting involved in the watch community. The Windup Watch Fair has become the most popular consumer watch event in America with events annually in San Francisco and New York City.

Whether you’re a long-time reader or a first-time visitor, we’d love to hear from you, so shoot us an email at [email protected], or hit us up on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook.

Most importantly, thanks!

Sincerely,
Team Worn & Wound
